 | Hi there friends, colleagues and media contacts!
It's Peds Franco, kamusta kamusta? Mwah!
Guys, I'm sending out a distress signal to all and i hope you could help me out or at least pass the news.
I need to form a Production design team in just one week for a two-week Indie-Film Batangas shoot.
I haven't been doing PD work in quite a while and so coming up with a team in such a short notice is challenging for me. So I'll need the help of my reliable friends.
I need people who don't really have to have an impressive resume.
Good experience, discipline, commitment and much enthusiasm is good enough for me. Panalo nga sakin ang mga new comer sa production design field dahil mataas ang sini-set nilang standards sa sarili and i love working with these individuals.
Game rin ako for Mass Communication/Fine arts/Multi-media arts/design Students as long as there's NOT going to be a conflict sa schedules nila.
I'll be needing TWO guys to help me out in Set Design, one OC and detail-oriented Wardrobe Master, diva-NOT-and-beyond-just-a-Make-up Artist...
...and most importantly, a very creative-innovative and patient Art Director na fairly-experienced na. This one, i really badly need ASAP.
This is a finalist entry to CINEMALAYA this year so yun ang pinaka-gain ng makakasama sa project. A good investment for those who really want to pursue seriously in Production Design.
The shoot will be on the FIRST and SECOND WEEKS of MARCH.
Again, Batangas nga ito so we don't have the luxury na mapuntahan ang location maya't-maya.
I'm also game din pala to meet some artists in Batangas. Yun lang nga, 'di ko pa alam as of now where exactly magsi-shoot. Pero, in case you got friends na Batangas-based na gusto maging involved, pwedeng makipag-ugnayan sila sa akin so we could talk.
I can get my SET-MEN and MAKE-UP ARTIST there. Kasi as you all know, like all other Indie-Film projects, we'd like to spend wisely. Kaya kung makaka-cut ng konti pa sa budget it would mean a lot for the production din. I know that there are groups sprouting all over so sana sana may kakilala kayong group in Batangas.
Anyway, I guess that's just about it. Please... please pakisuyo po!
Magandang Araw!

 | LIKHA ASYA is back!
To those who already know us... yes friends, we're back after more than a year of absence! Please view the pictures of our products here and text/email me your orders. You may also find us at Conspiracy Bar in Visayas Ave, QC... and in Legaspi Sunday Organic Market -Makati. But text me first before going there, we're still not doing this on a regular basis... hopefully soon though.
Anyway, to those who still aren't familiar with us...again, we're LIKHA ASYA.
It's not an organization... but I'd be very much happy if we'd be one day. LIKHA ASYA is a small livelihood venture my friend and I started in late '07.
You see, we're both artists and enthusiasts of the many regional arts and culture in the our country. We love anything and everything ethnic and Asian. Both of us love collecting, wearing and using the crafts of all Indigenous Peoples in the country.
And so, when the idea of a 'buy-and-sell' sideline came up, we knew it had to be in line with our common obsession -advocating and popularizing the arts and culture of our Indigenous Peoples.
We believe in sustainable development. And sustainable development means integrity in the rural way of life. It also preserves the local arts and culture... so in our little way, my friend and I try to find a way to get our products directly from the people, the tribes and poor communities who make them.
And were glad that gradually... were already doing it. Because in that way, we know that we're giving them the opportunity for market growth, not the market suppliers or middlemen... or wholesaler-retailers as we know them.
In 2007, when we first tried out our venture, we only had a very small capital but we had an overwhelming support from our NGO friends who also supply the most of our products... as well as our first patrons.
It was my friend who first pushed for it... and sold our few items in NGO events and activities through invites. The response was positive. We thought that we have an edge compared to others who sell similar things because not only do we have an eye for really beautiful and unique finds but also, we really get the genuine articles... not china made counterfeits... not those locally mass produced export products.
Soon, we found other people who wanted to consign our products. We also found some places where we could sell our stuff to people who are readily interested in the kind of things we trade.
We learned back then that there's a promise in our unique way of doing business. Because I guess, we knew that we're also helping marginalized peoples' communities, especially the IPs, and we made it sure that our customers also know a thing or two about the origins of the products they buy from us... and they kept coming back.
Fairly speaking, for novices in the trade, we were ok since we were able to sustain the venture for about a year.
And now that were back in our Sunday Market family in Legaspi Village in Makati... and in a new venue in Conspiracy Bar... were hoping to get back our old patrons as well as new customers and friends.
We're also excited because soon... hopefully, we'll also be able to provide new artsy crafts mainstream markets and trade fairs have never seen before. We're working on getting products from Indigenous Peoples' communities in Western Visayas -the 'Tumanduk' and Davao Oriental -the 'Mandaya' tribe.
We'll also feature artworks of some friends soon so, if you're a collector of paintings and small sculptures, designer furniture pieces... you may want to check us out too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OUR PRODUCTS
Because my partner here in LIKHA ASYA is now based in Thailand, we're also confident that we'll be able to sustain a steady supply of stuff from Thailand... Indonesia... Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar ... Laos, Vietnam... India... China and even Afghanistan.
I've already uploaded some photos of some of our products, I'll upload some more when I finish taking pictures of our new stuff that I just received from Bukidnon.
Our products are anything you may wear from head to foot... to things you carry with you... to things you use at home or in office/school.
We also sell 'MAYUMI' Accessories designed by Bayang Barrios.

 | It's been a long while since I've seen an edition of 'The Correspondents' that I really liked.
 | Anyone had medical consultations lately? Weeks ago, I accompanied an Aunt to a hospital for her check-up. After only a few minutes, we left and paid the doc some couple of grand. And I thought to myself... how lucky these people are. Just imagine how many patients come to them in a daily basis.
So you know, It's hard for me to believe that these private medical centers are in a losing situation with the implementation of the law on cheaper medicines.
I think the reason why the docs are against it is that they're gonna get smaller commissions now from the pharmaceuticals because the latter has to readjust to accommodate the law of course, thus cut costs here and there.
Aint it so familiar? Haaay buhay! Kawawa naman talaga ang lipunang ito. |

 | me just realized that even a piece of pinoy oregano leaf can grow roots.
was attending to my pocket garden this morning and i noticed the leaf was stuck on the bell pepper pot's soil. was moved by it. i should be ashamed of myself for feelin' like a loser.
then this afternoon, a big black bee visited my flowering basil. i thought, wow... it it actually went as far as my floor to look for its food.
i love this day... |
 | Some thoughts on the passing of Michael Jackson...
He was both a great influence to the pop culture as well as a an eye-opener to all.
He was an artist who struggled all throughout his life in many diferent levels. He was to be the first sole african-american to be the real idol of the american people... and even the whole world in the early 80s. He was the also the man who struggled with real-life problems but was cursed to remain in the blinding hot spotlight... and had to endure the excesses of hyper-reality that once brought him to the top.
In his youth... amid the strong culture of activism and the proliferation of liberal thinking in that era, the american nation was still relatively more of hypocritical than sincerely liberal to the 'other' (non-white, gay/lesbian, other religious beliefs and culture/practice and other deviances). It was a time when violence, sex and overrated american white-male egotistism was the toast of the pop-culture, the economy and politics.
Michael was a fish out of water... the only one of his kind.
And there was the thing about his sexuality. Gays' gaydars never fail... and the obvious needed not be pondered on.
Compared to all the pressures of the biggest hollywood pop-stars in the history of the united states combined, Michael was still the biggest showbiz roadkill. And in this respect... his life's challenges desserve our acknowledgement.
Michael went through all the pain that he only will ever know of... and he served as an eye-opener to all of them big celebs that came after him, whether he liked it... or they recognize it... or not.
Yet he must have lived the kind of frustration and pain we will never know of, he was also nevertheless a fighter. Up to his last days, he was determined to redeem the respect that he also desserved... at least the kind of respect that everyone else should enjoy, perhaps.
Michael Jackson for me was definitely the man in the mirror for so many people. |
